The mission of HES is to establish a partnership between home and school that maximizes students’ potential to succeed. We strive to provide engaging learning opportunities in a safe and caring environment, and to encourage partnerships between parents, staff, students, and community.
Engage all members of the HES family to build a cohesive team focused on meaningful learning and leadership opportunities for students and staff with the goal of becoming life-long thinkers and learners.
Discovery Program (Gifted)
Advanced Studies based on G.P.A. and norm-referenced test scores. At HES, approximately 25% of our students meet the gifted criteria and are being served in the Discovery Program.
Approximately 20% of our population receives ELL instruction. There are 33 countries of origin and 8 languages represented at Hawthorne.
School Wide Co-Taught Setting
Approximately 15% of the HES population consists of special education students with a variety of exceptionalities. The majority of these students are included in the general education classroom for at least 80% of their instructional day. The classrooms are staffed with a full time general education and a full time special education teacher; additionally, a paraprofessional may be assigned as appropriate.
State of the Art Apple Learning Lab
The Hawthorne Foundation has provided HES with a technology teacher and a completely furnished computer lab that hosts approximately 25 iMac computers.
After-School Extended Day Program (ASEDP)
The Hawthorne ASEDP provides dynamic after-school enrichment through a variety of programs designed to support and expand student interests. Some of the programs provided through ASEDP are: tennis, golf, drama, dance, chess, robotics, Spanish, cooking, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
